I am ashamed to be an American citizen. I am ashamed to share the same homeland as these bigots. These so-called Christians don’t follow God. They use God. They use their filthy, distorted version of God as the foundation for their hate and as a way to have their disgusting, hate-filled protests unaffected by the law. They twist the words of a book, a book which has already been altered indefinitely over thousands of years just to accommodate man’s desires so much that I don’t even consider it right to truly take the word of anyway, to suit their atrocious desires.

I am crying. I can’t believe this. This is heartbreaking.

I hate that I can believe this. I hate that I’m not shocked or scared by it anymore. My heart is hardened against them. But it doesn’t mean I don’t want to fight back. 

They protested at American University, my school. We had a Big Gay Party right across the street. There was dancing and hot chocolate and gay couples and straight couples and happy people. 

They also protested in my home town, at the funeral of a family that died when the father lost his job, became unstable, and ended the lives of his children and wife before committing suicide. I don’t care what they hate anymore, just that they have so much of it. I don’t hate the Westboro Baptist Church anymore. I am sad for them.
